There's a lady
Sitting on a bench by the stairs
Carrying a world of cares and nobody sees her
She's a lady
Her face bears the wrinkles of time
Creased with worried-filled lines but nobody sees her

She once was a princess upon her father's knee
All the world was hers to see
That little house to her was like the palace of a king
That's the way it used to be

But now she sits all alone and stares
Dreaming of the days she spent there
Wishing for a way out of here but nobody shows her

She's a lady
She's just like you and me
Part of humanity but nobody sees her
She's a lady
Feeling the weight of her years
Hiding from her lonliness here, won't somebody see her

She once was a dancer, the footlights knew her name
All the world was hers to claim
That little play to her was like the grandest Broadway show
That's the way it used to be

But now she spends all her time alone
Wishing she could find her way home
Just lost in a world of her own and nobody finds her

She's a lady
Living in her dreams of the past
She's back in her palace at last where nothing can touch her
She's a lady
A princess on her father's knee
Her own brand of reality where everyone loves her

She's a lady
